Brief Description

The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Act, 2023 amended the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA), Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), and Qanun-e-Shahadat, 1984 to criminalize child sexual abuse content and cyberbullying. Section 36 of PECA provides that courts may order designated agencies to collect or record information from service providers, in coordination with the investigating agency, if there are reasonable grounds that such content is needed for a specific criminal investigation. The law strengthens digital evidence collection, prosecution, and protections against technology-facilitated violence and exploitation.
